Why it's awesome!
You can meet other people who are all that, just like yourself
If you are selected among your peers to attend the Rural Electric Youth Tour, you'll have the chance to see pretty awesome sites in Washington, D.C.
The Electric Cooperative Youth Tour has brought high school students to Washington, D.C. every June since the late 1950s. Students compete for slots for this unique opportunity and are selected for this program by their local electric cooperative.
In fact, you'll get the chance to meet more than 1,500 other young adults from across the United States. Many of those who attend say it was one of the most memorable weeks of their lives!
Over 40,000 students from rural areas and small towns across America have participated in this unique program. Some of our Youth Tour alums have gone on to design airplanes and to serve in the highest ranks of our government, including the U.S. Senate.
Cooperatives are cool 4sure
The cooperative business model is unique, in that the people who use the services that a cooperative provides, make the decisions about how the business is run. The business model is just one of the many things that makes electric cooperatives unique. You could safely say our product is the most widely used product in the entire world. Electricity keeps your cell phone charged. Your tacos hot and your energy drinks cold. It keeps your computer humming, when you login to Facebook and share your daily thoughts. In today's modern world, it's a necessity, and in demand 24-7, so we want you to know more about cooperatives and electricity.
Someday, you'll run the show
Soon you'll graduate and head to college. After that you'll stake your place in the world and not long after, you'll be the decision-makers. To give you an idea of how you'll do that, you'll meet elected officials who make decisions affecting our nation.
If you want to be part of this fun (free!) week in Washington, please contact your local electric cooperative or high school career center for additional information.
